Sabrina Carpenter headlined two sold-out nights at BST Hyde Park, hailed as “stunning” and “dazzling” by critics and with rave reviews from those in attendance it appeared that she had cemented herself as a British fan favourite.
However, in a recent survey of British Gen Zers, she was ranked as the fourth-most overrated musician, with 45% agreeing, according to data from SuomiCasino.
Gen Z fans of Sabrina’s who attended her London pop-up shop over her BST performance weekend were shocked with her ranking.
Jess Coles, 21, said: “I can’t believe that.
“She’s so good at matching what people our age are feeling, it’s empowering and there’s satire behind it – she’s speaking a different language.”
Kiera Duff, 22, said: “She’s done so much for women.
“I think when you rise to a certain level you come under attack.”
Topping the list of overrated musicians according to Gen Z was Taylor Swift, with 57% of votes.
Kanye West took the overall top spot across all age groups, with 52% of Brits labelling him overrated, followed closely by Beyonce (43%), Taylor Swift (42%) and Harry Styles (37%).
Conversely, topping the list of the most underrated artists amongst Brits are Coldplay and The Beatles, both with 16% of people agreeing.
Intriguingly, despite worldwide success, UK artists such as Coldplay (16%), The Beatles (16%), Adele (15%), Ed Sheeran (13%) and Elton John (12%) made up the top five named as underrated, suggesting there’s a strong sense of musical pride and recognition for British artists.
