WATCH: Are book clubs on the rise?

Between 2019 to 2023, book clubs listed on ticketing site Eventbrite increased by 350%.

Along with this, celebrities like Dua Lipa and Kaia Gerber host their own clubs and the BookTok hashtag has garnered more than 200 billion views.

Though the clubs are becoming popular rapidly, they also can act as safe spaces for people to express themselves.

Vicky Wodge, organiser of the Crime and Fictional Punishment Book Club at Waterstones Gower Street, said: “Everyone needs to feel listened to.

“For people to be able to share their opinions is really vital.”

Wodge’s club shows the clubs are both trendy and traditional and talking about a good book is a unifying experience.
