Charlie Hebdo: Huge queues in South Kensington for latest edition despite shop selling out in 30 minutes

Hundreds of people braved the cold weather and queued in South Kensington in the hope of getting their hands on a copy of Charlie Hebdo.

The satirical magazine’s latest issue ‘All is Forgiven’ carries a cartoon of the Prophet Mohammed crying on its front cover.

People queued around the block, some from midnight last night, outside The French Bookshop in the hope of purchasing one of 360 copies of the issue which sold out in just 30 minutes.

One person in the queue tweeted: “Bah, I’m clearly not the only one who has headed to South Kensington for a copy of Charlie Hebdo.”

LSE student Josh Kemp was hopeful of getting a copy, he tweeted: “In the queue for #CharlieHebdo in Kensington, 50 people ahead, fingers crossed #JeSuisCharlie #freedomofexpression.”

South Kensington is one of a number of outlets across London selling the latest edition.

Yesterday Brixton newsagent Pritesh Patel, who owns the news kiosk inside Brixton Tube station, told South West Londoner he would be selling copies of the controversial publication.

He said: “The picture itself is not offensive.

“He’s got a tear in his eye, so if anything he’s showing compassion.

“I think the title in the top is, ‘All Is Forgiven’. If anything it’s compassionate.”
