A café combining coffee and food with cycling, running and other community events has opened a second south west London venue.
The Clubhouse on Wimbledon High Street is owned by performance bike company Raptor, which opened its first venue on Putney Embankment in 2024.
Operations manager Khloe Arsenault, 28, started out as a barista at the Putney branch in January. She said the business had grown beyond what the team originally expected.
Arsenault said: “I don’t think it was planned at all. They thought they would sell maybe 60 coffees on a weekend.
“Now we get 20,000 customers a month and serve over 1,000 coffees a day.”
The two-storey venue will host run and cycle clubs for people of any ability from beginners to marathon runners.
Regular customer Sally McDougall said she first went to the Putney branch for coffee and is now one of the people who leads its run clubs.
“No matter who you are, whether you’re having a good day or a bad day, you can share it all with the community,” she said.
“When you’re with your mates, the kilometres just melt away.”
The café will also offer a range of events including family fun-runs, pub quizzes and singles nights. It is due to open an in-house bakery in the next few weeks.
Marketing executive Tara Andrews, 35, said: “If you’re not careful then sport can become very elitist, and so a big thing about our community is being able to cater to all types of people at any sporting level.”
