Edami: Dalston’s first Lebanese bakery

Hailing from the south of Lebanon, 27-year-old Adam Cherkawi realised East London was lacking a place that served manakish (traditional Lebanese flatbreads) when he came to the city to study social sciences.

After a training stint at a bakery in the southern suburbs of Beirut, Adam was ready to start the new shop in the heart of Dalston. 

However, just as he was preparing to open the doors of Edami, Israel declared war on Hezbollah as part of its campaign against Iran. This meant the olive oil that his grandfather’s farm was meant to supply was now under threat.
