A groundbreaking new agricultural initiative is taking root in south London.
Following the closure of its prominent Waterloo site after ten years, the youth charity Jamie’s Farm has relocated to Tulse Hill, near Brixton.
Jamie’s Farm Brixton is part of Oasis St Martin’s Village – a pioneering youth hub bringing together more than 20 organisations offering programmes in sport, music, mental health, and agriculture.
Farm manager Luke Rosier said: “It’s very much a work in progress.”
However, he also said that this project aims to serve young people “for generations to come”.
From guinea pigs and chickens to vegetable beds and a polytunnel, the site has been developed in the last eight months with the help of young people.
It aims to provide a space where young people can socialise, grow food, and, among other things, learn to care for animals.
Nationwide, Jamie’s Farm has supported more than 18,000 young people through day visits and residential stays.
The charity’s model blends outdoor work with therapeutic support to build social, academic, and emotional skills and confidence.
The aim is for the farm to be fully operational by 2027 – complete with more animals and what Jamie’s Farm has called “an urban oasis”.
