Perfume has long had roots in our capital city, whether it be the iconic brands such as Penhaligon’s, or the oldest running perfume house in the UK, Floris London.
In celebration of National Fragrance Week, The Londoners explored two independent fragrance brands that were born and bred in London – Angela Flanders and 4160tuesdays.
Angela Flanders was founded in 1985 in East London, just down the road from the infamous Columbia Road Flower Market.
After initially creating a business from fragranced pot-purri, Flanders then decided to move into perfume production, which led to the establishing of the brand.
Over the years it has been run by her daughter Kate, who can be seen in the video below.
Also featured is Sarah McCartney of 4160tuesdays, who credits Angela Flanders as an influence for her beginning her own artisan fragrance brand.
McCartney’s love of perfume started from a young age, and after a career writing for Lush, as well as her own novel featuring a savvy perfumer, she established 4160tuesdays in 2012, on a mission to create the scents she described in her book.
She has grown her brand over the years and has even started her own scent making school – Scenthusiasm.
You can watch the video package about the brands and both interviews below.
