In the last year, three romance-only bookstores have opened in London marking a tangible shift in BookTok trends being reflected offline.
Main Character Books in Spitalfields is the newest of these shops to open in the capital catering to the lovers of all things… love.
Romance, and romantasy in particular, are highly popular genres on BookTok with authors like Emily Henry, Abby Jimenez, and Sarah J Maas regularly featuring.
But why is the popularity of romance literature suddenly booming?
Cassie Simmons, founder and owner of Main Character Books, said: “I think now we’re coming to a sort of age where it’s something we want to talk about more publicly.”
