London Dynasty Cheer (LDC) is based in Battersea and comprises eight competitive teams, each competing in its respective division of difficulty.
This season, two of LDC’s teams, the co-ed team Revolution and the all-girl team Platinum, will head to the Cheerleading Worlds held annually in Orlando, Florida.
With around 9,000 athletes from over 40 countries competing at Worlds each year, the championship operates on an invitation-only basis, with teams winning bids to participate in the competition.
Another LDC team, Empire, is set to compete at the European Summit Championships in Lisbon, Portugal, this season, while the remaining teams will attend UK national and international competitions.
Cheerleading emerged around 1920 across American universities and has rapidly become a global sensation.
Popular debates within cheerleading now include whether the sport should be included in the Olympics, alongside sports such as gymnastics.
