Hampton & Richmond’s winless run continues after 2-1 loss to Hemel Hempstead

Hampton & Richmond Borough’s winless run in the National League South extended to six games after a 2-1 defeat to Hemel Hempstead Town at Beveree.

James Holden opened the scoring for the Tudors, and Millar Matthews-Lewis doubled their lead in the second half.

The Beavers got one back with a late penalty by Ronan Silva but failed to find an equaliser in stoppage time, suffering a third-consecutive home defeat.

Lee Allison’s side broke the deadlock in the 20th minute as Kyle Connor-Ajayi scored from distance, intercepting James Holden’s drop-kick and steering the ball into an empty net.

Alan Julian’s men nearly levelled, but Soul Kader saw his shot bounce off the right post after Sam Deadfield set him up at the edge of the box.

The visitors went close again after the break, with George Williams being denied by a brilliant save while one-on-one from Holden, who redeemed himself for his first-half mistake.

However, there was nothing the Hampton & Richmond stopper could do about Matthew-Lewis’ shot, which flew over him into the back of the net via a deflection in the 62nd minute.

The hosts finally pulled one back after numerous goal-scoring opportunities late in the second half, as substitute Silva was fouled inside the box and then converted the resulting penalty down the middle in the 87th minute.

At the other end, the visitors also won a penalty in stoppage time courtesy of Jake Gray, but the spot-kick was dragged wide by Joe White.

The Tudors remain in the hunt for promotion, currently sitting fifth in the play-off positions, while the Beavers are just about clinging to a spot in the top half of the table.
