Protestors share motivations for attending anti-Trump demonstrations

Thousands gathered in central London to protest Donald Trump’s second state visit to the UK.

The protest, organised by the Stop Trump Coalition, began at Portland Place, near Broadcasting House and progressed towards Parliament Square beside Westminster.

Anti-Trump protesters were organised into various blocs. These included protesters representing Palestine, Ukraine, Europe, the climate, Migrants’ rights and Jewish people.

Zoe Gardner, an organiser of the Stop Trump coalition, said: “Many, many British people who hate Trump can express their anger at him coming to our country.

“They can show a bit of pride, a bit of backbone and to stand up to bullies on the global stage, as opposed to this embarrassing sycophantic display.”

Renowned human rights activist Peter Tatchell, 73, attended the protest because he was concerned about international conflict.

He said: “I am here today because Donald Trump is a would-be tyrant in the making — what’s going on in Israel and Gaza does not fit British values.”

Women’s rights groups were also present, including Women Against Rape (WAR) and the Women of Colour Global Women’s Strike (WCGWS).

Chrissie A, 75, from WCGWS, said: “We wanted to make it clear that Trump is not welcome here. We don’t want racists and sexist men who think they can just ‘grab p*ssy’.”

Ben Jamal, director of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, was also in attendance.

He said: “Trump continues to enable the genocide in Gaza, hosting him in the UK is an action which normalises this.”

Also present were the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, there to raise awareness about the presence of American nuclear weapons in the UK.

The anti-Trump protest comes after Tommy Robinson’s Unite the Kingdom protest which drew more than 100,000 people to central London on Saturday.

Whilst pro-Trump protesters were in the minority, Danny Tommo, an organiser of the Unite the Kingdom protest, was present.

Tommo wanted to welcome Trump to the UK.

He said: “I’m standing here as a devout Christian for Charlie Kirk.”
