LISTEN: London Arab Orchestra brings crowds to first concert

The London Arab Orchestra attracted a large crowd to its first concert together as a group which took place at the beginning of June.

The concert, which was held at the Barbican Theatre, featured traditional Arabic songs which were sung alongside a band which included both Western and Arabic instruments.

The concert also featured a special guest, Blur frontman and Gorillaz creator Damon Albarn, who played a song which he wrote in the early 2000s about ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.

Composer and conductor of the orchestra, Maestro Basel Saleh, said: “I am really proud of the choir who exceeded my expectations, as well as the musicians.”

During the concert, traditional dancers also made an appearance, which brought loud cheers from the audience.

The group rehearses every Tuesday at the Rivercourt Methodist Church in Hammersmith.
