WATCH: Artist’s new song paves way for bigger discussion on Brixton gentrification

A Brixton artist has released her new song which reflects on the growing pains felt from gentrification in the area.

TOURGUIDE is a soulful blend of Afro rhythms with electronic textures released last week by YIIGAA. It describes the familiar scenes she saw growing up and how it has changed over the years.

She said: “One place that hit hard was Atlantic Bakery because I would go there all the time. It was where everyone went to get their bread – especially the older community.

“That was crazy because you took away where people go to get the basics.”

Despite this, YIIGAA affirmed that Brixton’s community is ever strong when it faces displacement.
