Saucy Books: London’s First Romance-dedicated bookshop

London’s first independent bookshop dedicated entirely to the romance genre opened in Notting Hill last week.

Saucy Books aims to celebrate the power of love stories and create a joyful space for book lovers in West London.

Sarah Maxwell, Saucy Books founder, said: “Romance is the most popular genre in the world, and yet it’s rarely given the spotlight it deserves,

“With Saucy Books, I wanted to build the kind of shop I’ve always dreamed of — one that centers pleasure, intimacy, and storytelling, and makes space for every kind of romantic.”

As romance is the fastest-growing category in publishing, Maxwell saw a gap in the UK literary scene and wanted to introduce a space for romance book lovers to share and connect.

With themed displays, exclusive gifts and special editions, Saucy Books will host author events and book clubs aiming to foster connection and community.

For the shop’s opening, the 2025 summer collection is inspired by Venus, the goddess of love and beauty.

The shop hosts a curated mix of contemporary, classic, and indie romance, from classic authors to BookTok favourites and has been described as “a love letter to independent bookstores and romantic joy”

It is a bright and beautiful space, full of life and stories for lovers of the romance genre.
