The works are on display at the Stanley Picker Gallery until November 23
The latest exhibition at the Stanley Picker Gallery in Kingston provides something for both the eyes and ears to enjoy.
‘Sound Matters-Exploring sound through forms’ is a Crafts Council Touring Exhibition which aims to show how engagement with sound leads to further engagement with matter.
Seven contemporary works have been selected to demonstrate the way craft practice and sound art can coincide to create works which require people to both look and listen.
The unique and interesting pieces each use a range of different materials such as clay, digital sound recordings, wynch elm and spun aluminium, with each offering something both original and new.
Jackie Thomas, Stanley Picker Gallery Coordinator, said: “It’s an amazing exhibition, very full on, lots of listening and it really is about sound, technique and materiality”
“An incredible amount of work has gone into every piece.”
Ms Thomas said that since its opening on October 2, the exhibition had been very busy and has created a great deal of interest.
“It’s a really engaging exhibition” said Ms Thomas.
Artists who have contributed work to the exhibition include Cathy Lane, Keith Harrison, Dominic Wilcox, Yuri Suzuki, Max Eastley as well as collaborative artist group Owl Project and architecture practice Studio Weave.
David Toop, Professor of Audio Culture and Improvisation at University of the Arts in London, is a curatorial advisor.
The Exhibition will remain at the Stanley Picker Gallery until November 23 before moving to Smiths Row in Bury St Edmunds. For more information call 020 8417 4074 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
