Problems also with external wall insulation. Tom Woolley, a surveyor interested in cavity & external retrofit says around 3 million homes now adversely affected. We had our house done in 2013. Installer told us it would stop the existing rain ingress but they lied. In 2018 manufacturer told us to do the necessary construction work ignoring the fact we can’t access the structure without removing the EWI. A builder estimated£60k plus to put things right. Spent £8k on solicitor but installer stopped corresponding when asked to come to mediation. Stuck now in cold damp house, average temp this winter 17 degrees.

The insulation industry was left to run riot and Parliament say there are 3 million homes affected by failed and wrongly installed CWI. Oscar Onsite is the UK’s leading authority on Extraction and is training extractors like Cavity Extraction Ltd how to ensure the extraction is done in a methodical way and recorded and gets a clearance certificate to ensure the job has been done correctly.

I bought my first home in April 2019, so this is our first winter here. House is always cold, dropping to 13 degrees at times, so I have to blast the heating to raise to 17.. Can’t get much higher. I’ve also had to buy a dehumidifier, to try and get rid of the condensation, especially in the bedroom as the moisture gives me asthmatic symptoms. My sister doesn’t like coming over as it’s so cold – it’s embarrassing!

Oh, to add, our insulation was installed in 2001… I’ve no idea if we even qualify for it to be fixed!

Thanks Carolina for this very informative and detailed article about the governments negligence to home cavity wall insulation problems.
