From Kent to London: How surplus farm food feeds London’s most vulnerable

A partnership between a farm in Kent and a London-based charity is helping to bring surplus produce to food banks across the city.

When Peter Hall – the owner of Target Farm in North Kent – realised he was going to have a surplus of apples, pears and plumbs, he turned to the internet for a solution.

There, he found the Felix Project, a food redistribution charity who in 2024 rescued 16,000 tonnes of edible food – equivalent to 38 million meals.

For the past three years, they have been working side-by-side, collaborating to bring surplus food from the farm to food banks in London.

Together, they have rescued around 400 tonnes of fresh fruit, helping to feed thousands of Londoners.
