New Malden care home invites community to upcoming international food festival

A New Malden care home is hosting a multicultural food festival tomorrow (7 August) to celebrate community and diverse cuisine.

Little Brook House care home will open its doors from 2:30pm to 4:30pm for free.

Held on Nelson Road, the event will feature international dishes, eco-friendly crafts, and activities to bring residents and neighbours together.

Moreover, guests will sample global flavours with bite-sized dishes from India, the Caribbean, Italy, and Sri Lanka, celebrating the diverse cultures within the home.

“I have never been to an event like this before,” said resident Joan Nash.

“I like seeing and doing new things as it keeps the mind occupied.”

The sustainable event also features eco-friendly decorations and a sensory herb-potting activity, both crafted by residents using recycled materials.

The festival is part of Care UK’s nationwide ‘A Taste of Home’ initiative, which showcases daily life in care homes through food.

Each event focuses on sustainability and community while celebrating diverse cultures through local ingredients and traditional recipes.

Nash reflected on her taste of home, sharing how Sundays used to bring the whole family together for a traditional roast dinner.

Little Brook House Home Manager Pearl Hope shared her excitement about welcoming neighbours to the event.

She said: “We are part of a strong community here in New Malden, and days like this are a wonderful way of bringing people together to celebrate our shared love of food, while giving residents the opportunity to share their favourite recipes and traditions with younger generations.”
