South West London teams had mixed fortunes this weekend.

Fulham suffered a late equaliser which meant they had to settle for a 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion. Steve Sidwell put the Londoners ahead early on at their home ground. They were looking to hold on to their slender lead, but this plan was scuppered in injury time, as Gareth McAuley bundled in the equaliser. Fulham have had a tough start to the Premier League season, and are now lying in 13th position with only one victory from four matches.

Chelsea fell to their first Premier League defeat of the season after a Steven Naismith header before half-time gave Everton a 1-0 victory at Goodison Park. Samuel Eto’o had his first start for the Blues, but proved ineffective and Chelsea are now sixth, behind rivals Manchester City and Manchester United on goal difference.

Queens Park Rangers won 1-0 against Birmingham at Loftus Road. Charlie Austin got his first league goal for the club with a 49th minute header. In a tight game where both sides could only muster three shots on target between them, the narrow victory keeps QPR unbeaten this season. They are in second place in the Championship.

League One side Brentford were involved in the game of the weekend, beating Tranmere 4-3 away from home. The Bees were 2-0 up within 15 minutes, but Rovers fought back. The game was locked at 3-3 in injury time, but an Adam Forshaw penalty won it for Brentford. They are in eighth place, just a point from the play-offs.

AFC Wimbledon slumped to a 2-0 defeat in Chesterfield. The Dons were overpowered by the League Two leaders and the pressure told with a goal in either half. Neal Ardley’s team are now just holding on to a play-off place in seventh place.
