Anna Brogan believes staying positive was key as she rallied from a set down to reach the second round of Wimbledon Qualifying.
Brogan, from Glasgow, had been handed a tough opening round match in the qualifying draw at Roehampton, against Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva.
The Andorran, a former junior world No.1, is considered one of the brightest prospects in the game, and showed buckets of talent to claim a well-fought opening set.
But world No.370 Brogan remained undeterred and after forcing a decider, served out a 4-6 7-5 6-3 victory to set up a second round meeting against fifth seed Diana Shnaider on Wednesday.
The 25-year-old never stopped believing she had a chance throughout the contest, and was naturally thrilled to come out on the right side of a terrific battle that enthralled the watching crowds.
“I’m just really delighted to have played a good match today and come through in three sets,” she said.
“I just kept trying to create opportunities out there and I just kept working. It was really nice to finish well today.
“I think I was playing well, and it was a case of just continuing to create opportunities, and with time on the court it was going to swing my way if I kept a good attitude and kept positive out there.”
Just a few days ago Brogan’s place in the women’s singles draw at Roehampton had not been guaranteed, with the Scot having to battle through the LTA’s Wimbledon wildcard playoff to reach this point.
And coming through that has made the past few days particularly sweet for her, having had the opportunity to compete on the main Wimbledon site itself.
She added: “It’s a privilege to play here. Not many players get to compete at Wimbledon, so I’m just grateful for the opportunity and thankful for the LTA for putting on such a great event in the wildcard playoff.
“It is played at Southfields at Aorangi – being able to spend some time at Wimbledon on the main site is really nice.”
