West Ham United fans were the worst behaved across England and Wales by the end of the 2024/25 football season.
The study, conducted by crypto casino company Winna, ranked 127 clubs in England and Wales by the number of football banning orders in effect against their fans at the start of June 2025.
The latest data from the Home Office on football banning orders, arrests, as well as other police actions was used, and this covered all football seasons between 2014 and 2025.
West Ham finished top of the list with 112 banning orders, while arch rivals Millwall were the only non-Premier League side from that season within the top 10, finishing seventh with 63.
Paul Mertens, CEO of Winna, said: “West Ham fans ranking as the worst-behaved in the country isn’t surprising when you dig into the numbers from the past few seasons.
“It’s probably the police’s worst nightmare to have West Ham and Millwall in the same league next season.”
The two east London clubs face off in the championship this year for the first time since 2012 and a heavy police presence expected.
However, some West Ham fans felt that the number of banning orders the club received was an unfair representation.
One fan responded on Facebook saying: “In this day and age it’s not fighting at football that can get you banned. The low tolerance level for behavior in some stadiums can be the reason why they kick you out.”
Another responded: “They ban people for minor things like swearing ffs, one bloke got banned for throwing a screwed-up tissue. This is why the stats are as high as they are, very few people are banned for actual trouble or violence.”
This has been a common response from fan groups as they look to address these issues.
From the 2014/15 season to the 2024/2025 season, banning orders increased by 29%. Whilst Premier League clubs made up 33.3% of all banning orders across the top four English Leagues.
Following a World Cup that saw England fans praised for their behavior at the tournament, it will be hoped that this can be carried on into the oncoming domestic football season.
