Fulham looking to bounce back in League Cup against Doncaster Rovers

Fulham will be hoping to claim a morale-boosting win when they host Doncaster Rovers in the Capital One Cup third round tonight.

The club, who sacked manager Felix Magath last week, are bottom of the Championship after picking up just one point from the first eight matches.

Their opponents Doncaster have also had a tough start to the new season as they sit 15th in League One with 11 points from eight matches.

The two sides last met in the League Cup back in the 1983-84 season when Fulham won 3-1 in both legs. The Londoners have also lost only once in their last 13 meetings with Doncaster.

Fulham lost 1-0 at home to Blackburn Rovers last weekend but, despite the result, there were plenty of positives in the performance and the atmosphere around Craven Cottage.

Fans’ favourite Kit Symonds has taken over as caretaker manager following Magath’s dismissal and he will be looking for a win to finally end his side’s bad run.

£11m summer signing Ross McCormack is yet to prove his worth and may be included in the starting 11 against Rovers.

However, the hosts will be without the suspended Shaun Hutchinson and the injured Adam Taggart, while striker Matt Smith is cup-tied.

Doncaster on the other hand are missing striker Curtis Main who has a knee-injury while Rob Jones could return.

This match could prove pivotal in reversing the course of Fulham’s season and the recent changes at the club may just be what they needed.
