AFC Wimbledon aim to upset league leaders Burton Albion in home clash

AFC Wimbledon v Burton Albion @ The Cherry Red Records Fans Stadium.

September 16 – 19:45 BST

AFC Wimbledon face a tough home test tonight as they welcome league leaders Burton Albion to the Cherry Red Records Fans’ Stadium.

After a bright start to the season, the Dons are winless in four league games and will be looking to put that right against an unbeaten Albion side.

With midfielder Harry Pell missing the game through suspension and defenders Andy Frampton and Jack Smith still absent due to a broken ankle and knee injury – the Dons will look once again to Matt Tubbs for inspiration.

The League Two player of the month for August comes up against a Brewers defence which has only been breached once so far this season, but he has scored more than twice as many goals as Burton top scorer Lucas Akins.

Former Stevenage frontman Akins has been aided in his quest for goals this term by the form of experienced midfielder John Mousinho, a summer signing from Preston.

Mousinho has netted twice in seven games and the Dons defence will be hard worked to keep the duo quiet.

Last season’s fixture in South West London ended in a 3-1 win for Wimbledon and although the Dons will be backed as ever by their passionate fans, the team has changed much since last September’s victory.

After the weekend’s defeat at Accrington Stanley, Dons boss Ardley said: “We have got to pick ourselves up. We are getting a lot of things right and there are a lot of positives.”
