Jacksonville Jaguars: first NFL team to play back-to-back in London

The Jacksonville Jaguars will play consecutive games in London for the first time in NFL history after the release of the 2023 NFL International Games schedule.

The Jaguars will be playing at both Wembley Stadium and Tottenham Stadium at the start of October to mark 11 games played in the English capital by the Floridan franchise.

They will play in two of the three NFL games in London, before the international tour comes to a close with two more games in Frankfurt, Germany.

Henry Hodgson, the general manager of NFL UK, said: “To see the Jacksonville Jaguars extend their stay in the UK and play two regular season games here this year is indicative of the Jags’ commitment to continuing to grow their fanbase here long-term.

“We have staged games in London since 2007, with interest and momentum in the sport here in the UK rising year on year and look forward to giving fans the best NFL experience yet in 2023.”

NFL Executive Vice President Peter O’Reilly added: “We are excited to bring three games to London once again, a city with a huge love for the sport and a passionate fan base across the UK.”

Jacksonville Jaguars, at home in the UK

London has long been marked as Jacksonville’s home away from home and they will return for a tenth year in the last 11 (2020 was skipped due to the pandemic) since their maiden match against the San Francisco 49ers in 2013.

Their overall record in London stand at 4-5, 3-5 at Wembley while their sole appearance at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was a 23-20 win over state rivals Florida Dolphins in 2021.

Jaguars QB and 2021 first overall pick Trevor Lawrence counts on the UK fanbase to lift the team when they take they field in October.

He said: “Hosting the Falcons at Wembley Stadium will be awesome only to be followed by playing on the road against the Bills at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

“I’m pumped for the experience and know the support from Duval will be strong at both games.”

The Jaguars finished the 2022 season as the AFC South division champions, although they then lost in the divisional playoffs to eventual Super Bowl winners, the Kansas City Chiefs.

Schedule for the NFL London Games

The opening NFL International match-up will have the Jaguars host the Atlanta Falcons at Wembley Stadium on October 1.

Jacksonville will stand as the away side for the match-up against the Buffalo Bills at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on October 8, due to scheduling purposes.

Not only is it the first back-to-back of an NFL team internationally, it will also be the first time a team has played two regular season games outside of the USA in the same season.

The third match and final match in London has the Tennessee Titans matched up with the Baltimore Ravens on October 15.

The games in Germany will both occur at the Frankfurt Stadium, with the Miami Dolphins v defending champions Kansas City Chiefs on November 5.

The 2023 International run ends on November 12, as the Indianapolis Colts battle the New England Patriots.

All games are to start at 2.30pm.

Unlike recent seasons, there will not be any International Games at Mexico, due to the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City being under a renovation project.

May 11 is the date for the announcement of the full 2023 NFL regular season schedule.
