Ranelagh Harriers set to host Richmond 10k in June

Ranelagh Harriers will host the Richmond 10k on June 17.

The race also incorporates the Surrey 10km Championships, so is a great opportunity for Surrey-qualified athletes to test themselves in a quality field.

This long-standing race originated as the Dysart Dash in 1991, is a fixture in the Surrey Road Race League and, with clubs from all over Surrey competing, now is an ideal time to sign up.

This fast and fun summer 10k in the quite roads of Ham near Richmond.

Race Director Michael Morris said: “Although it’s a Championship race we welcome runners of all abilities. It’s an ideal race for a beginner because the course is very flat but also really scenic along the Thames towpath.

“Beginner runner’s will get a lot of encouragement and support from our excellent race marshals.

“There are several parkruns nearby the race location, such as Old Deer Park, Richmond Park, Bushy Park and Kingston, so we are hoping many of those parkrunners will be encouraged to join.”

It’s a flat two-lap course run entirely on tarmac (apart from a 100m dash on grass at the beginning and end), part on roads and part on Thames Towpath, so offers a great opportunity for a PB.

A large portion of the race is run along the scenic riverside with the chance to enjoy the view of the river, trees and Teddington Lock.

The start and finish are very close to the race HQ in Ham, not far from Richmond (postcode TW10 7QA). Toilets and changing facilities will be provided and it is possible to leave bags there (at your own risk). There is chip timing, and a great memento for all finishers. At only £16 to enter, or £14 for club members, it is a bargain.

Morris continued: “With so many expensive races sprouting up we have tried to keep the entry fee affordable and to make it accessable to all.

“It’s a great event for the surrounding community with a friendly atmosphere.”

There will also be the usual prizes for the fastest finishers in various age categories.

We hope to see you at our fast and fun summer 10k on Sunday June 17 at 9am. More details about the race can be found here. Don’t hesitate to email us with any questions at [email protected].
