Lord’s appearance helps Richmond open up lead at top of London Youth Games table

Richmond lead the London Youth games table after an impressive past couple of months.

The team have amassed 159 points and are 15 clear of their nearest competitors, Ealing.

A win in the women’s volleyball final this month extended their lead at the top beating Havering to take the gold.

They also reached the final of the under 13 cricket tournament this month and were represented at the finals at Lord’s by eight girls from Bushy Park Girls Cricket team.

However, they couldn’t match the other boroughs on the day and lost both games – 61-60 to Redbridge and 112-62 to Ealing – to finish in seventh place.

A team from Kingston also made the finals but also finished seventh after losing both games – 94-93 to Haringey and 104-79 to Greenwich.

Bromley won the tournament, beating Redbridge 90-87 in the final.

Richmond were cheered on by a number of people in the stands, including the Deputy Mayor for Richmond upon Thames, Peter Buckwell.

He said: “This was a great achievement and I was thrilled to be able to cheer the team alongside their friends and families.

“As the build-up to the London Youth Games increases over the next few weeks and months, I look forward to seeing even more young people participate in competitive sporting activity.”

The games will carry on with a variety of events until finals weekend on July 4 and 5.
