Women play football at the Twickenham Swans training ground

WATCH: The real AFC Richmond women’s football teams

The new series of Ted Lasso may be the first time that viewers consider the existence of women’s football within Richmond, but for both women and girls, the game is more than alive already.

A quadruple-winning under-18s club and a host of inclusive all-ability teams are just two groups that allow all ages to enjoy football.

Richmond Park FC, a development-focused club for girls in Richmond and Kingston-upon-Thames, achieved a historic win of four trophies across two teams this season.

Meanwhile, women of all ages are being introduced to the game through Swans Football Club, which has six teams across southwest London.

Lisa, a member of the Twickenham branch who used to play in Sweden, could not find a club until she came across Swans.

“I looked about five years ago and there was only walking football for women,” she said.
