‘We needed new blood’: Fulham boss hopes new players will help turn club’s fortunes around against Derby

Fulham v Derby County @ Craven Cottage

Saturday February 6 @ 3pm

Fulham hope to grab a much-needed win as they welcome Derby County to Craven Cottage.

The Cottagers are still searching for their first taste of success in the Championship this year, a winless run that goes back to their 4-1 victory over Rotherham United on December 29.

The hosts have a strong chance of lifting themselves up the table as they face Paul Clements’ faltering side, who similarly have not won since their 2-0 win over Fulham on Boxing Day.

Slaviša Jokanović’s side come into the game on the back of a successful transfer window, with the club hanging on to star strikers Ross McCormack and Moussa Dembele amidst interest from other clubs.

Fulham’s new midfield pairing of Rohan Ince and Zakaria Labyad will be available to face the Rams and Jokanović is delighted with the new acquisitions.

He said: “I’m happy that we’ve brought in some players that we think can help us in the future.

“We did a great job considering the embargo – we needed new blood.

“Some players have Championship experience and some have come from abroad.

“As a group we’ll push forward together. I believe we are going to be stronger, more solid, and more competitive.

“I repeat many times how my team is in a process.”

Fulham have won just one of their last 14 Championship games and Jokanović hopes that his side can turn their fortunes around.

He said: “We made a good game against Hull two weeks ago, but I expect we can still be better and, what is more important, I expect we can start to win the games.

“We are a Championship team in 19th position and the first target is to do everything to push this team to make us a little bit safer in the table.”
