Squash will make its Olympic Games debut in 2028, but there is concern that fewer people are now playing the game in England.
There are more than a quarter of a million fewer players in England than there were 10 years ago, according to data from Sport England.
Players and coaches worry that the sport will miss the opportunity to raise its profile and capitalise on the extra attention the 2028 Games in Los Angeles will generate.
Sports are competing for talent, money, and attention, and squash risks being squeezed out despite the UK’s record of producing champions in both the men’s and women’s game.
We headed to two of London’s most active squash clubs to find out why people love the game, and what’s the state of play before LA 2028.
