For the past year, Community Camp 4 Palestine has made its home outside the US Embassy in Nine Elms.

The volunteer-run protest site has been manned day and night since its formation in August 2024, offering space for teach-ins, marches and providing an ongoing reminder of the humanitarian crisis in Palestine.

The camp was established in response to the US’s involvement in the ongoing conflict in Gaza, with members calling for an immediate ceasefire and greater accountability from the US government.

Samira, a member of Community Camp 4 Palestine, said: “We’re here to defy the US and what it represents in terms of how much they have to do with the destruction that is taking place in Palestine.”

Whilst organisers maintain that their presence is peaceful, the camp has faced a mixed response.

Volunteers reported moments of hostility from passers-by, as well as actions of encouragement and support.
