Boris Johnson urges star-struck voters to ‘Back Barwell’ on Croydon campaign trail

Mayor of London Boris Johnson hit the campaign trail in Croydon today throwing his weight behind Conservative candidate Gavin Barwell.

Sporting his trademark unruly blond mop star-struck voters flocked towards him to pose for an obligatory selfie along with the Croydon Central candidate.

Mr Johnson, who was left flummoxed by a children’s jigsaw puzzle in Surbiton yesterday, urged people to vote for Mr Barwell on May 7.

He said: “I’m here in sunny, beautiful Croydon where I’ve been really, really pleased by the reaction Gavin Barwell has been getting from the people here in this community.

“I think there is huge support for him and not surprisingly when you consider all the great things he’d done for the schools, the hospitals, for bringing crime down and the great regeneration in Croydon that Gavin has helped to lead.”

Mr Barwell said: “Great to have Boris Johnson out campaigning for me again in Croydon today – never have so many selfies been taken!”
