Amazon mark 25 years in the UK by shining a light on workforce

A major global company is celebrating 25 years of delivering for customers in the UK by shining a light on the personalities who make the magic happen behind the scenes.

To mark the 25th anniversary of Amazon opening in the UK, employees from Amazon’s Coalville and Dartford fulfilment centres are starring in a major announcement video today.

Prime Day 2023 is coming on July 11 and 12, and Amazon fulfilment centre employees have helped break the news to its customers. Amazon’s annual Prime Day event offers Prime members 48 hours of savings, and new deals will drop throughout the event, with discounts on top products from much-loved brands, small businesses, and artisan makers.

The newly released video follows an Amazon box through different areas of a fulfilment centre, highlighting some of the fun activities that happen at some of the sites during Prime Day – from DJ booths and dance parties to basketball breaks and air hockey challenges.

The content culminates with a stunning visual of Amazon team members on a rooftop, holding boxes to form the Prime Day dates.

The rooftop filming was at LCY3, Amazon’s fulfilment centre in Dartford across from the landmark Queen Elizabeth II Bridge over the River Thames. The rooftop features more than 8,000 solar panels, which help power the 547,000 sq. ft fulfilment centre.

The content also captures the enthusiasm of employees around Prime Day and, most importantly, celebrates the people who make it a success each year.

“Prime Day is always fun because we have lots of different activities going on at the site,” said Elliott Wilkes, an Amazon packer and instructor in Coalville.

“I personally love the trivia quizzes with prizes, and I have a reputation for winning them. It is also exciting because you get to see what is popular and what everyone waited to buy for Prime Day – it is like window shopping is my job!”

“I’ve been here for five years, so five Prime Days, and it’s always exciting because we always have events and something special going on,” said Aleksandra Goleva, an Amazon packer at BHX2 in Coalville.

“I am also excited because there will be a lot of overtime pay opportunities, and that helps me to pay for the master’s degree that I’m pursuing in cosmetic science.”

New deals will drop throughout the event, with discounts on top products from much-loved brands, small businesses, and artisan makers.

“Every year, we want to celebrate our amazing employees and the teamwork that happens to deliver for our customers during Prime Day,” said Stefano Perego, VP for Amazon Customer Fulfilment in North America, and Europe & Global Operations.

“Prime Day is a particularly special time with lots of celebration and fun activities within our sites, and we thought it was fitting to feature and put our employees at the heart of Prime Day’s date reveal.”
