Former MP Vince Cable to stand again in Twickenham after PM’s shock election announcement

Former Twickenham MP Vince Cable is to make a political comeback in a snap general election on June 8.

The politician and one-time business secretary lost his seat at the 2015 General Election when the Lib Dems saw their number of seats in parliament slashed to eight.

He promised to make education, social care and Heathrow central issues of his campaign to unseat Conservative MP Dr Tania Mathias.

A focus on Brexit, which was seen as crucial to Sarah Olney’s victorious Richmond by-election campaign last year, will also be key for Mr Cable.

Mr Cable had earlier told radio station of LBC of his plan to stand and confirmed the news via Twitter.
