Wandsworth sex attacker behind bars after victim bites off piece of his tongue

A man who had part of his tongue bitten off while he carried out a sexual assault in Wandsworth has been recommended for deportation.

Mustafa Ali, of no fixed abode, was found guilty of subjecting a woman to a sexual assault in Fishponds Road in Tooting in the early hours of January 18.

The victim stopped him from committing a more serious offence by biting part of his tongue off.

Although Ali ran off, the injury he sustained meant a blood trail could be followed by blood dogs, leading police to a bus stop on Balham High Road.

A bus was identified and seized, and swabs were taken which indicated where the male had been sitting.

After CCTV from the bus was retrieved and circularted, officers were able to identify Ali topping up his Oyster Card in NW10.

The retrieved piece of tongue was sent to the lab for forensics, and identified through DNA as belonging to the suspect.

During an interview, the 32-year-old gave a false account of his actions, but at court on April 10, he pleased guilty to sexual assault and GBH.

He was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment and recommended for deportation.
