Pedestrian killed in Purley after car leaves road in early morning collision

A pedestrian died in Purley this morning after being hit by a car which left the road.

The 40-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene on Godstone Road at 5:00am. A man walking with her was taken to hospital with a shoulder injury.

The driver of the car, a red Citreon Saxo, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The 25-year-old driver was accompanied in the vehicle by three other people, none of whom suffered serious injuries. 

Godstone Road between Downs Court Road and the Whyteleafe Hill roundabout was closed while police investigated the incident.
