RESIDENTS are being asked how they think the council should address issues concerning Merton’s future as part of a new consultation which started last week.

The consultation on Merton’s development plan, known as the Core Strategy, began on Monday, September 7 and runs until October 16.

The new Core Strategy is an important document as it will help to decide what can be built, and highlights key areas for future development including increasing school places and promoting local businesses.

It will also focus on the borough’s diversity and improving community links by bridging the gap between the east and west of the borough.

In addition to this, there are plans to promote the development of Colliers Wood into a more attractive and flourishing area, through the promotion of small business, restaurants and environmental landscaping.

The existing plan, in place from 2003, is being replaced by the new Core Strategy, which will guide development until 2030.

The plan can be accessed online, as well as by requesting hardcopies from the Council’s Spatial Planning Team on 020 8545 3041.

The public is being asked to comment on the plan before it is sent for preliminary approval to the national Planning Inspectorate in October.
