Brixton Market took centre stage at the launch of Labour’s Small Business Taskforce Report last night.

Streatham MP Chuku Umunna was joined by Tessa Jowell and Labour leader Ed Miliband to announce their plans to stimulate business growth, including improving broadband access, establishing export hubs and cutting red tape.

The market was specially chosen as the venue for the launch of the report, written by business people and for business people.

“The face of the British economy is changing like never before – it is diverse and Brixton Market reflects that,” said Mr Umunna.

The party believes that after nearly three years of the current government’s economic plan, it is time for a change of direction, and that helping start ups and small businesses is key to stimulating the economy.

“We need investment in infrastructure and to get money in people’s pockets,” said Mr Miliband, speaking to CNBC.

“I hope the chancellor changes course in his budget. He needs a different plan and we have that plan.”
