Westminster City Council has invested £1 million into combatting the cost of living crisis by supporting families during school holidays and winter.
This additional funding is designed to ensure people have access to nutritional foods, and free clothing and school uniforms, plus provide activities and resources throughout the colder months for those who need it.
The seven-figure boost brings the council’s total support for those facing financial hardship, including government funding, to £26 million.
Westminster City Council leader Councillor Adam Hug said: “This additional £1 million investment means we can make sure residents have access to vital services and support.
“Whether it’s a warm meal, school holiday activities or free clothing for children,we’re working with our community partners to help people through difficult times.”
In addition to their annual ‘Winter in the City programme’ and £1 million boost, the council are also investing £1.2 million over the next three years, through an Advice Grants Programme.
This programme will target eight local charities that help low-income households increase their income and reduce debt.
This type of funding to the low-income families will help to strengthen the amount of organisations that help to deliver crucial advice and guidance to the lower-income families.
