Time-travel ticket: TfL celebrates 25 years with vintage train

Transport fans are in for a treat, as TfL has revealed a beautifully restored 1938 train will be operating across the Piccadilly line in a month’s time.

Get ready to snap up your tickets, this is an experience like no other!

From Friday July 11 to Sunday July 13, the Piccadilly Medley journeys will mark 200 years of train travel, and the 25th anniversary of TfL.

Guests can choose from a selection of routes on the Piccadilly line, including the Heathrow Loop.

London Transport Museums CEO and director Elizabeth McKay said: “Come and join us on our wonderfully restored deco-style train this summer. Step aboard Step aboard and experience the joyful nostalgia of riding the rails.”

Another milestone and celebration is in place too, as this also marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of Charles Holden. Once a modern architect, Holden designed many of the outer London Tube stations, as the lines were extended during the 1930s.

Passengers can alight at stations such as Northfields, Acton Town and Cockfosters, to take in some of the work done by Holden, more than a century and a half ago.

This a fantastic opportunity to experience true transport nostalgia with all the benefits of today. The trains are restored, electrified and styled with classic moquette seats.

Another heritage train journey is in store for Metropolitan line lovers later in the year.

TfL chief operating officer Claire Mann said: “It has been a great year of celebrations so far, and these heritage journeys not only allow customers to take a step back in time, but also feel the change in train travel during the last century.”

These tickets aren’t in infinite supply, so if you want to experience all the vintage transport goodness, you can get your tickets from here now.
