An organisation in Fulham is gathering data on canine waste in the city by pinning where there is uncollected faeces.
Pin the Poo was first developed by Massimo Pavone who wanted to collect enough data to rid the streets of dog fouling for walkers and pets to enjoy walking in London.
He designed the website himself and tried to make it as accessible as possible so anyone interested could get involved.
Pavone said: “I wanted to create a bit more visibility surrounding the issue, I wanted to make an objective way to collate data.”
It is possible to report dog fouling through council websites but Massimo Pavone added that lots of people lose hope going through the whole process.
Avid user Saffron Thomas, who has 25 years of experience in waste management, said: “The council website takes too long, I would rather be pinning.”
The website works by users being able to mark where the uncleared poo is by specific location using a pin. The website also offers the option to say when the waste has been taken away or cleared.
Pin the Poo aims to be inclusive so users are anonymous, which makes it difficult to track how many people use it. However Massimo Pavone reports that the numbers are only growing across London and further afield.

Thomas, who is based in Chiswick, said: “I thought hallelujah when I first saw the website. I am sick of seeing it (dog poo) on the streets. I hadn’t seen anything like this before.”
Both Thomas and Pavone use NextDoor to spread the word about the organisation. They spoke of how the website can be toxic when it comes to dog owners.
They hope Pin the Poo will be somewhere to report data without the negativity.
Thomas said: “We are not grassing on our neighbours here, we just want to clear the streets of dog crap.”
Pavone wants to broaden the reach of the website so data reports can be presented to the council. He hopes the council will engage in talks to put more bins in place and clear the streets of dog poo for good.
