WATCH: London Fire Brigade gives advice on staying safe this summer

Last summer, the London Fire Brigade faced the highest number of wildfires in the capital since 2022.

Richard Field, the brigade’s deputy assistant commissioner for prevention and protection said: “We had 121 wildfires recorded across London, and it was a real big effort from the London Fire Brigade to make sure we met that challenge and extinguished those fires.”

The UK has already seen two heatwaves so far this summer, but with the good weather also comes the risk of wildfires.

Field said: “Enjoy your summer, but just be mindful of your environment please.”

Barbecues are especially dangerous – avoid using them near things like combustibles, property, hedges, in dry foliage, and on balconies.

Fires can spread rapidly and cause loss of property or worse.

Field added: “If the fire does escalate, call 999, ask for the fire service and we’ll be there.”
