Pre-payment electricity customers offered help to claim £400 vouchers

Residents who have not claimed their £400 energy vouchers will be able to get help to do so at a free community drop-in being held at Pimlico Post Office tomorrow (Wednesday 5).

The pop up in Lupus Road will run all day from 9am to 5pm.

The vouchers were rolled out under the Government’s Energy Bills Support Scheme (EBSS) last year and have been sent to customers who top up their electricity meter with a key or card.

Pre-payment electricity customers should have received 6 monthly vouchers for £66 and £67 through the post or by email to claim for energy credit on their key or card.

However, the latest voucher redemption rate statistics, released by the Government, reveal many residents in Pimlico, which falls under the constituency of Cities of London & Westminster, have yet to claim the financial support they are entitled to.

The data highlights over £36 million worth of energy vouchers have gone unclaimed across London with just 63% of vouchers redeemed, while the Cities of London & Westminster constituency has an even lower redemption rate of 52% with more than £400,000 still to be claimed.

Many vouchers will have now expired but the team at the drop-in event can help customers request new vouchers from as far back as the start of the scheme in October to make sure no one misses out before the scheme ends on 30th June.

The local pop-up – pictured above at an earlier drop-in in Hampstead – aims to provide residents with a helping hand in the local community, with experts from Citizens Advice being on hand to provide face-to-face advice and support on energy bills to help more people claim what they are entitled to.

Anyone who pops in can ask for help to find out how to redeem their energy bill vouchers. Citizens Advice will provide support and guide customers through paperwork or provide guidance on next steps to access the credit. No energy question will be too big or small for the team available on the day!

Head of Corporate Responsibility at the Post Office Mark Cazaly said: “Post Office is pleased to be working with the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero to help more people on prepayment meters claim their £400 Energy Bills Support Scheme (EBSS) vouchers.

“We want to make sure everyone claims what they are entitled to by hosting a community drop-in day at the Lupus Street Post Office on 5th April to give people the chance to find out how to use their vouchers or request new ones as well as how to get help with their energy bills from Citizens Advice.”
