Entry level jobs for voice actors are disappearing as AI voice generation software increasingly replaces human workers, aspiring voiceover artists say.
Three years on from the SAG-AFTRA actor’s union strike, initiated in hopes gaining protection from the encroaching threat of AI, jobs for voice actors are allegedly drying up.
While camera actors ended their strike against major studios in late 2023, strike action continued for voice actors for another year and a half.
Demands for protections that would prevent AI generated voice banks from replacing humans was the main point of dispute that prevented a deal being made.
A year on from the conclusion of the strikes, young voice actors are still finding it particularly hard to break into the industry, citing threats from AI as the main challenge they face.
