Lambeth residents knit blankets for homeless people this Christmas

Lambeth residents came together to knit blankets for homeless people this Christmas.

On 4 December 2022, arts and crafts group Craft Forward hosted a workshop for the local community to knit blankets for homeless people as part of a seasonal project called Blankets for Lambeth.

They started collecting donations of yarn and knitted squares in August and were able to create around 30 full and child-sized blankets in partnership with Brixton Soup Kitchen.

Founder Elena Lo Presti said: “I think it’s very important to help the most vulnerable people in our society no matter what.

“They’re people and they deserve nice things and they deserve a beautiful hand knitted blanket because it’s warm but it’s also important that it’s made by people.”

Watch how the blankets were created and what the community thinks of the scheme in the video below.
