Peace campaigners in Wimbledon continue to hold peace vigils which have been running for the past eight years
PEACE CAMPAIGNERS are still holding a Vigil for Peace in Wimbledon on Friday evenings after eight years.
The Vigil began in October 2001 in opposition to the military response to the September 11 attacks.
Campaigners stand side by side with candles between 6pm and 7pm on St. Mark’s Place.
The Vigil is jointly held by Wimbledon Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND), Wimbledon United Nations Association and Wimbledon and Wandsworth Quaker Meetings.
“There are only a handful of us. It’s more of a token presence,” said CND activist, Joanna Bazely.
The different aims of the groups are bridged by a commitment to alternatives to war.
