Rocky Horror Show charity gala with Anthony Head to be broadcast live in south west London cinemas

Anthony Head is the latest celebrity to join the cast of the Rocky Horror Show charity gala night which will be broadcast live in south west London cinemas later this month.

The Buffy the Vampire Slayer star will join comedian Stephen Fry, Spice Girl Emma Bunton and Great British Bake Off host Mel Giedroyc and share the role of The Narrator in the cult classic on September 17.

The show’s creator Richard O’Brien will also feature in the gala performance for Amnesty Internation as part of a limited West End run – the first time he has appeared in the musical for more than 20 years.

Fans of the cult classic will be able to give themselves over to absolute pleasure and watch the performance in one of 14 south west London cinemas broadcasting it live.

Head said: “Who wouldn’t jump at the chance (and to the left) to be a guest Narrator for Richard O’Brien in aid of Amnesty International? Let madness take control!”

The musical tells the story of Brad and his fiancée Janet, two squeaky clean college kids who meet Dr Frank ’n’ Furter when their car breaks down near his castle en route to visit their former college professor.

It proves to be an adventure they’ll never forget, with fun, frolics and frivolity featuring classic songs such as Science Fiction/Double FeatureDammit Janet and dancefloor-filler The Time-Warp.

Stephen Fry said: “I’ve been a devoted fan of The Rocky Horror Show for most of my life and I have been proud to support the incredible work of Amnesty International for just as a long, so to be joining Richard and the cast on stage for this special evening is a dream come true.”

Directed by Christopher Luscombe, Rocky Horror Show will see Olivier award winner David Bedella making a return to the show as the lead character Dr Frank ’n’ Furter, Ben Forster will return to play Brad while West End star Haley Flaherty will reprise her role as Janet.

Amnesty International UK’s Events Manager Akita Hancock said: “We’re delighted that so many special guest stars have agreed to be part of what promises to be a spectacular performance.

“The Rocky Horror Show is a fabulous celebration of freedom and expression – a fundamental area of Amnesty’s work.

“This is a perfect opportunity to rally support for men and women like Ihar Tsikhanyuk and to call for justice for all transgender people whose rights are under threat.”
