WATCH: Disability rights campaigners protest welfare reform bill in Parliament

Campaigners from groups including Disabled People Against Cuts and Stop the War, rallied members to Parliament Square on Monday to oppose the Universal Credit and Personal Independence Payment Bill.

Speakers at the event included Leeds East MP Richard Burgon, disability rights activist Paula Peters, and Stop the War Coalition founder member Lindsey German.

Protestors said the bill, being brought before the House of Commons this week, would plunge thousands of disabled people into poverty amidst the cost of living crisis.

The government was forced to offer concessions in the bill after a rebel amendment opposing its implementation gained the signatures of scores backbench MPs.

Despite this, campaigners claimed the authors of the bill still failed to consult with disability rights organisations.
