The Folk Seething festival in Kingston

WATCH: Kingston’s wacky and wonderful folk festival returns for its 17th birthday

Six-foot-tall hamsters, maypole dancers, and a goat boy were just some of the sights at this year’s Seething Festival in Kingston.

Hundreds of residents gathered in Surbiton for the event’s 17th anniversary to celebrate the start of spring with live music and an elaborate parade.

It is the first of many folk events ran each year by The Community Brain, an organisation which aims to bring creativity and fun to the borough through local participation.

Kingston resident and steam punk enthusiast Duke Box said: “There’s been a lot of smiles here today and it’s a scary time in the world, so it’s a good chance to share some smiles and spread some smiles.”

The festival is based on the fairytale of Lefi Ganderson, a goat boy who saved the village of Seething from an evil giant and allowed residents to live in peace.

Robin Hutchinson, director of The Community Brain and the festival’s founder, said: “It’s just a delight.

“To me, that’s the great joy of community events, you find a safe space.”
