MINDFIT: The London gym promoting feeling good over looking good

Mindfit, a gym in Crofton Park, Lewisham, offers personal training sessions and exercise classes to improve the physical and mental wellbeing of the people of south London.

The founder Kiki Bustos created MINDFIT with the sole aim to help others use exercise to benefit their life, after her own battle with mental health issues.

Kiki suffered with psychosis in her late teens as well as anxiety and depression. She found exercise to be a transformative tool for her mental health.

She said: “With the help of exercise, I not only recovered but became stronger and happier than before.

“It continues to be a pillar of my wellbeing and a key source of resilience and fulfilment.”

In the UK, one in four adults experience at least one diagnosable mental health problem in a given year.

Exercise has been proven to aid mental wellbeing. Research shows exercise can reduce the risk of anxiety and depression.

Being active releases ‘serotonin’ and ‘dopamine’ in your brain- chemicals that make you feel good.

In addition, exercise can reduce stress by lowering your cortisol levels, enhance cognitive function, memory and attention by promoting the growth of new brain cells and help boost your self-esteem and confidence.
