Southfields baker unleashes pure imagination and scoops top prize for Willy Wonka inspired cake

A Charlie and the Chocolate Factory themed cake won a Southfields company the Ideal Cake Decorator of the Year on Easter Sunday– for the second year running.

Cakes by Robin was awarded the coveted title for her mouth-watering masterpiece that featured all the characters from the Roald Dahl classic, from Charlie and Willy Wonka to the Oompa Loompas.

The cake, which took four days to make, was voted for by visitors to the Ideal Home Show, which closed this week, and via social media.

Robin Green, owner of Cakes by Robin, said: “The theme was Willy Wonka and my amazing head cake decorator took one for the team by going to see the musical to properly research the brief.

“He absolutely loved the show and totally went to town on creating the most amazing, enormous and stunning cake.

“We’re really excited and proud to have won it for the second year running and to have been associated with The Ideal Home Show!”

The cast of the hit West End show Charlie and The Chocolate Factory performed as part of the opening ceremony for the show and returned to perform for the announcement of the winner.

Cakes by Robin beat other four other award–winning bakeries from all over the country, such as Cakes by Shelley and The Bakery Lounge, to win the title.

Ms Green began the business in 2008 after training at the world-renowned Squires Kitchen International School, a far cry from her earlier fast-paced banking career.

Cakes by Robin also caters for sweet-toothed celiacs with a gluten-free range and her prestigious clients include Cartier and Love Productions for The Great British Bake Off.
